About Maritess T. Bott
Maritess focuses her practice on estate planning, asset preservation, probate, business law, taxation and succession planning. She is experienced in integrating business, tax, asset protection and estate planning for individuals, closely-held business owners and family groups. Maritess employs her knowledge and skills in identifying a client’s objectives and employing innovative and cost-effective techniques to meet each client’s business and estate planning goals. She structures and drafts documents ranging from simple wills and trusts to complex structures involving family limited partnerships, intentionally defective trusts, special needs trusts and charitable remainder trusts.
Experience
Maritess has authored articles such as “Estate Planning Doesn’t Have to be So Taxing” and “Caring for the ‘Little’ People in your Life” which was published in the March, 2000 issue and February, 2003 issue, respectively, of Pinoy Monthly, a Chicago-based newspaper. She has published a Legal Forum column in the nationally distributed publication, Filipinas Magazine. Maritess was also a contributing author and presenter at a Chicago Bar Association Trust Law Committee Meeting on “Sale to Defective Grantor Trusts” in December, 1999. She has made numerous presentations on various estate planning topics to audiences such as the Schaumburg Senior Center, American Retirement Architects, LLC, and the World Marketing Association.
Education
Maritess earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Northern Illinois University, a Masters of Science degree in Accountancy from Dominican University (formerly Rosary College), and a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Filipino American Bar Association and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys.
Personal
Maritess is married and lives with her husband and two young sons. She loves to spend time with her family especially watching her older son play in various sporting events. In her free time, she loves to read, scrapbook, play tennis and just hang out with her girlfriends.
